Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Engineering for Women, has started National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of 50 volunteers in the year 2006-2007 under the guidance of Prof. S. T. Khot. Later with the overwhelming response of the students & staff the unit gradually increased under guidance of Prof. S. A. Itkarkar. The strength of NSS unit became 100 volunteers in the year 2010-11. With great innovative ideas & successful activities the unit was again strengthened by 200 volunteers from 2016-17. Now the NSS unit has strength of 250 volunteers from 2023-24.
Prof S. A. Itkarkar, Prof. S. A. Hadke and Prof. Dr. S. S. Jadhav are the programme officers of the NSS unit. In this program the NSS Volunteers, under the guidance of the Principal & NSS Program Officers, carry out different activities like tree plantation, Shramdaan, blood donation camp, various competitions, lectures & seminars for students, visit to old age home & orphanages. The NSS volunteers also organize different events and celebrate days such as Independence Day, Engineer’s Day, Women’s Day, etc.
Academic Year: 2018-2019
Our college NSS unit with strength of 200 volunteers conducted many activities during the whole academic year & special camp held at Khopi with 100 volunteers. Various innovative activities were started in this year such as Tree plantation, Fit India Movement Flashmob, Rakhabandhan celebration at Ayurvedic Hospital, SVEEP Workshop for PO’s, Samartha Bharat Abhiyan, Swacha Bharat Abhiyan, Road Safety Awareness, Fit India Movement Campaign, Interaction with cancer patients at Bharati Hospital, Clothes Donation, Fort Conservation, NSS unit also continued this spirit in the special camp with lot more social projects like Health check-up camps, Street Play-Divyangata (Specially Abled People), Yogabhyas Shibir, Organic Farming Session, Anand Melava (Food fair), Debates, Computer Literacy Program for villagers. Electronics Workshop at Dolphin Lab, Home Minister competition were conducted with amazing response of villagers at Khopi village.

Several pioneering activities such as Guinness World Record of Tree Plantation (Sapling Distribution) at SPPU, Nirbhaya Kanya Health Care and Awareness, Meditation-Heartfulness Wellness, Fort Conservation, Nirmal Wari, Harit Wari, Paani Foundation Workshop, River cleaning at Mula Mutha, Kolhapur Flood Relief, were conducted during the year.
Awareness Rally, Drama, Street play, Teaching School Students, Cleaning of Village, Awareness programmes, Debate on Social Issues, Dental and Eye checkup Camp, Stress Management Lecture by AACCI by Shailja Mane during special camp held at Shriramnagar.
Academic Year: 2020-21
Another remarkable year added as the quality & quantity of activities was enhanced. Total 58 regular activities, just a preview to mention are Nirmal Wari, Harit wari, Nari tu Narayani, Paani
Foundation Workshop, Mamta Foundation visit (HIV positive Children), Cyber Security Workshop, Road Safety and Traffic Control Awareness, Road Safety Workshop.
Rajgad Trek, Raireshvaar Visit, Swarajya Nidhi for Rajgad-Sahyadri Pratishthan, Visit to Ramkrushna Math, Tree Plantation (Online). Grocery Donation on occasion of Shiv Swarajya Din. Also celebrated important days like Sadbhawana Diwas, Wachan Prerana Diwas, Azadika Amrut Mahotsav, Online poster presentation on World Environment Day.
Academic Year: 2021-22
Another remarkable year added as the quality & quantity of activities was enhanced. With the remarkable response of the volunteers from university we conducted different activities such as State level 3 Days workshop for Social Media Team at Bahai Academy, Panchgani, New Year Celebration at Old Age Home Asara, New Year Celebration at Old Age Home Asara, Career Guidance & Stationary Distribution to Girls of Jijau Foundation, Gender Sensitization Workshop, International Women’s Day Workshop. Self-defence workshop, Awareness through Rally, Murgud: Flood Relief, Blood donation camp, Street play by University team, Science Exhibition, disaster management, Celebration of Savitribai Phule Jayanti, Women's Day Celebration at ZP School, Shivjayanti Sohala and many more.
Academic Year: 2022-23
With mesmerizing journey of NSS unit, this year also volunteers continued the same spirit with more emphasis on current social issues & focussing the need of society which lefts the memorable imprints in the history. The events such as State Level Workshop on Contribution of Transgender in Election Process, Dindi, eco-friendly Ganesh Idol making, Meditation session to maintain mental peace in every individual’s life, Road safety to raise awareness about the importance of road safety and advocate for safer streets in the city, Cleanliness drive at S.M. Joshi bridge Organ Donation awareness campaign, Voter awareness, Children’s day celebration, Art and craft
exhibition on Youth day, Rangoli competition on Organ Donation, campus Decoration at SPPU- Painting of trees, Meditation program-Heartfulness workshop, Historical treks and Shramdan in Gadsanvardhan, Shiv Jayanti at Campus, Cloth Donation, Marathi Bhasha Divas, Science Exhibition, Experiencing the Wari and cleanliness drive during Hadapsar to Saswad (35Km) etc.
‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ Campaign was celebrated by distributing Tiranga and conducting Rally.
The activities held in the special camp which includes Baithak, Morning Prayer and Yoga, Seminar on the topic “Shivcharitra” for all NSS volunteers by Mr. Vijay Kuthwad Sir, Anand Mela and Master Chef Competition, Haldi-Kuku, Bhajan-Kirtan, Bharud, Street Plays, Awareness rallies, Lectures on Cashless India, Digital India, happy Life, Career Guidance, Gathering, Science Live Models Exhibition, Screening of Science innovation documentaries, Dramas on social issues, Baithak an interactive program discussing the great topics from historical monuments to your ideal personalities gain the attraction and appreciation of Villagers & University.
The volunteers on the occasion of Republic Day started the most remarkable initiative which was the great step that is Pune’s First Footpath School for the Children of Construction site workers, children who stays on footpath. The school has a huge response enrolling total 40 students and continued till students migrated again, hoping to have more students the Initiative was appraised by Sakal YIN Foundation.
The NSS unit is growing day by day, now having a family of 1000+ volunteers coming together for the Social Welfare, Personal Development and taking a step towards Revolution of India with the support of our Principal Sir, Programme Officers, Teaching and non-teaching staff above all the Supportive Parents of our Volunteers. The NSS Unit with many more creative & innovative ideas holding a special place in everyone’s heart.
